Mega project titled "Khulna Water Supply" with the financial support of ADB and JICA under Khulna WASA approved by the ECNEC at an estimated cost of Tk 25558 crore in 2011. In the first phase of the project, it took about two and a half years to acquire about 72 acres of land in 12 locations. Therefore, the need to increase the project expansion to complete the field level construction / installation. But during the implementation of the project, the cost of the project was not increased by 7 years, of which the work will be completed in December 2018. Major activities under this project are: (1) To collect water from the Madhumati river in Mollahat, bring 33-kilometer 56-inch diameter pipes to Samantasena Water Treatment Plant; (2) Construction of 11 million liters capacity water treatment plant and 77.8 million liter capacity reservoir; (3) To bring the refined water from the Treatment Plant to Khulna city, set up pipeline with a ductile Iron Pipe, 14 km HDPE pipes and about 50 feet below the Rupsha river;(4) Construction of 7 distribution reservoirs and 10 overhead tanks at Khulna City; (5) To provide drinking water to all the dwellers of Khulna city, set up 650km pipeline in almost all roads and connecting water with meter in 45 thousand holdings.
- The work of the project ended almost 90%. Khulna WASA is going to meet Khulna's long-standing expectations by supplying 11 million liters of drinking water daily to 45 thousand holdings through December 2018.
